Procedure:

Engage:

Teacher will put some pictures on the walls in the class. Students will be allowed to view the pictures on the wall quietly and orderly. Teacher will then ask the students to talk about the pictures they saw on the wall. The words given by the students will be written on the board. The teacher will ask the students what kind of words they gave. The students will reply by telling the teaching that they are describing words. The teacher will then tell the students that the words are adjectives and that the topic for the day will be adjectives.

Explore:

The teacher will divide the students into groups of four. The students from each group will participate in a game activity called “DESCRIBE ME”.  The teacher will give each group a list of describing words in which they will use to describe each other. The students will come to the front of the class and share with their peers the words they used to describe each other Each participant will place his /her head through the design on the sugar board, a students will select an adjective word from the list which will be placed in a box, then they will be allowed to  place it on the design to describe the student.. The words that the students use will all be positive words. While doing the activity the students will realize that how you describe each other is an adjective. They will also realize that an adjective is used to show emphasis when describing anything/ anyone. The teacher will also write some words on the board that students share that are not on the list they were given.

Explain:

Teacher will show students a video on adjectives where the definition and some examples of adjectives will be seen. The students will watch the video keenly and they will make jottings of what they hear and see in the video. Once the video is finished the teacher will ask the students about the video and their responses will be written on the board. If the students should get any wrong the teacher will explain to them why it is wrong. To add to what the students learnt from a video the teacher will place a chart on the board with the definition of an adjective and an example. The teacher and students will read the chart together once. Then the students will read it alone. The teacher will instruct the students to write the definition of an adjective along with some examples in their notebooks. Teacher will explain to the students that adjectives are mostly to use to enhance the noun.

Elaborate:

The teacher will give the students a poem. The teacher will read the poem along with the students. The students will then read the poem alone. After the students have read the poem they will underline all the adjectives in the poem. Each student will give the teacher an adjective and explain why they think it is an adjective.

Poem:

My Tim

Energetic Tim, Energetic Tim,

I love my little Tim,

Yes, I truly do,

I take you to my new school and even

to the small shop,

In your little blue, purple, orange and green socks,

You are my sweet companion,

I take you everywhere as my tiny tot.

Evaluate: Teacher will spit the class in half and give them the instructions to the activity that will decide if they understand what adjectives are. The students had heard an adjective poem earlier in the lesson, therefore the teacher will allow both groups to write a short poem using mostly adjectives. Each group will come up and read their poem and explain to the class why they used those words and why they say they are adjectives.
